A Nigerian man has accused Nigerian women of not doing enough to condemn the SARS brutality men are suffering.
He mentioned that women are always vocal about the injustice they face but are not speaking out against SARS brutality because they are not as much the victims as men are.
He added that if Nigerian women come out to protest SARS brutality, the police would not shoot them because they are women and even if they shoot, it will go viral and cause change.
He wrote: “Run a ‘SARS, Don’t shoot’ protest or any protest against the government. But, let women do the march. The opps won’t shoot, and even if they’re foolish enough to do it, it’ll go so fucking viral, a cascade of change will happen.”
Women were outraged by it and they called him out. Some asked if he hasn’t noticed women condemning police brutality, others asked if he has ever lent his voice to any form of injustice that affects women alone yet he wants women to do more than they are doing already to fight SARS brutality against men.
Reacting to the man’s tweet, Kiki Mordi wrote: “Nigerian women have been suffering at the hands of men in ALL spaces. No space is safe. Not the church, not the market, not the office. Brutality & abuse is not new to us… But the one that now ALSO affects you as a Nigerian man has you heated that women aren’t fighting enough.
“Note that it’s not women aren’t fighting but not fighting enough. We should stop everything we’re doing and attend to this one because it concerns you too. Suddenly the women you laughed at for Market March are good enough for your own March. So good you want them to be infront.
“So what if they’re shot at, we will trend, change will happen blablabla You say a woman is less likely to get shot at by SARS, I say a man is less likely to get raped by a lecturer. I want to see you infront of that fight if you’re really about it.”
Another Twitter user wrote: “Baba say na ‘the cops won’t shoot, and even if they shoot, it’ll go fucking viral and change will happen’. As in, SARS may kill the women o, but it will shaa trend. Nah. My foremothers forbid it.”
