Daniel Sturridge was sent home from Liverpool’s training camp after claiming he felt sick.
Jurgen Klopp allowed him to leave in a further blow to Sturridge’s long term future at the club, with fewer minutes on the field and also less goals a mark of Sturridge’s season this time out.
Fans and the media were not overly impressed at the news Sturridge was sick, in yet another episode in a career that has been filled with injuries and illness – something that has shown Sturridge cannot be relied upon during the biggest moments.
An uncertain future
That has led Jurgen Klopp to reassess keeping the forward at Anfield, with a summer exit set to be on the cards, and plenty of other options being mooted for the Reds.
Sturridge is still a goal scorer – but one thing that he cannot guarantee is his fitness, and that could well put the majority of his suitors off in the summer – that and his wage demands.
