International Women’s Day is celebrated world-wide today, 8th of March, 2022.
Many South African female celebrities have taken to their social media to celebrate themselves and others also use this opportunity to celebrate their achievements.
It’s a beautiful thing to see our women do good things and at the same time get celebrated.
However, the entertainment industry has taught so many of them a lot and this has made them become the woman they are today.
Let’s take a look at some of these women:
Moozlie
Moozlie is a rapper and television presenter born in Benoni, Gauteng, she won the MTV VJ Search for the year 2012. The star has been in the industry for 10 years now and she has taken to her social media to celebarte her achievement.
In early 2019, Moozlie partnered with Volkswagen SA and Drive Dry in making an awareness campaign which deals with reducing texting and driving.
Thuso Mbedu
According to Google, Thuso Mbedu is a South African actress. She was nominated for an Emmy Award for her role in the telenovela Is’Thunzi, which has been called “one of the most compelling television programmes on South African television” by Mail & Guardian. She made history as the first SA actress to lead a mainstream US series. The actress plays the lead role in Barry Jenkins’ adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel, The Underground Railway, set to premiere next month on Amazon Prime Video.
Recently, she won the Best Female Performance in a new scripted Series at the Independent Spirit Awards 2022 for her role in The Underground Railroad series.
Minnie Dlamini
Minnie Dlamini is a South African on-air personality, actress and model. In 2010 she was selected as the new presenter for the SABC 1 Friday live-music show Live Amp. However, in September 2011, Dlamini was announced as the new face of South African departmental store LEGit, with her own fashion range, the Minnie-Series. Few days ago, she announced she was able to model a stunning outfit at the Paris Fashion Week 2022.
Bonang Matheba
Bonang Matheba is another woman that needs to be celebrated as she has proven to the world that she is ready to give all it takes to become who she wants.
The star is a South African television presenter, radio personality, businesswoman, producer, model and philanthropist. Born in Mahikeng, North West, she is known for her flamboyant presenting skills and her signature voice. She presented the SABC 1 music show LIVE (now Live Amp) which built her spotlight in the industry. She is also known for being the first Black South African to be featured on numerous magazines.
Pearl Thusi
Pearl Thusi is a South African actress, model, and presenter. She is known for her roles as Patricia Kopong in the BBC/HBO comedy-drama series, The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, Dayana Mampasi in the ABC thriller Quantico and Samkelo in the romance film Catching Feelings.
In 2020, she starred in the titular role of Netflix’s first African original series Queen Sono.
In February 2021, Thusi was cast as Zama Zulu in the Netflix film Fistful of Vengeance. It was released on February 17, 2022.
