Cristiano Ronaldo rode to Real Madrid ‘s and his own rescue once more as his sweetly struck volley five minutes from time masked another below-par La Liga display from the European champions at Getafe.
Ronaldo would have been red-faced had Real not emerged with all three points as he missed an incredible chance by skewing wide with the goal at his mercy as the visitors hunted a winner.
Karim Benzema had given a much-changed Real, without the injured Gareth Bale and rested Luka Modric and Isco, the lead by firing into the far corner just before the break.
However, then came a controversial Getafe equaliser as Jorge Molina appeared to be offside as he bundled home 11 minutes into the second-half, and Ronaldo’s moment to forget.
He wasn’t to be denied, though, as off the bench, Isco opened the Getafe defence and Ronaldo added the finishing touch to move Real up to second.
