Why you should never lower your standards in relationships

Here’s why having high standards is always a good idea.

1. He won’t give you the love you know you deserve
Knowing your value is key as it allows you to see how lucky a man would be if he dated you. Expect to be treated less than you deserve from a man who doesn’t match your standards.

2. You’re going to regret it
Lowering your standard is equivalent to settling, and you know just how much that is a bad idea. It wont take long before you realise that you’re wasting your time with someone who doesn’t even come close to being the perfect guy.

3. High standards are better than no standards at all
Relationship coach Debi Berndt says the problem is mediocre men will make you feel as if your standards are unrealistic, and you might end up believing it too. Having high standards is better than dating any random guy that comes your way.

4. You’ll miss out on your dream guy
Spending time with the wrong guy will make you pass out on the opportunity to have met someone you didn’t need to lower your standards for.

5. It instills fear in you
Choosing to lower your standards is a result of fear. The fear of thinking you’ll never find a man to match your standards. Experts advise that you give yourself time and that there’s someone out there who’ll tick all the right boxes.

6. It won’t make the relationship any better
You’ll only have yourself to blame when talks to you like you’re a nobody, or doesn’t pitch up for dates. You made it okay by giving him the benefit of the doubt.
