A suspected baby factory housing 12 women, six of whom heavily pregnant, has been uncovered in Ogun State, the police said on Thursday.
Three suspects identified as Florence Ogbonna, Chibuike Akabueze and Chibuzor Okafor were arrested in connection with the case.
According to spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi, those rescued were between ages 20 and 25.
It was gathered that the alleged baby factory located at Imedu Olori, Mowe in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area was discovered after one of the inmates fled on February 28.
The informant was said to have run to the police station where she reported that she was lured into the home and held captive.
She told the police that Ogbonna, the owner of the place, usually contracted men to impregnate women in the house, adding that once they were delivered of their babies, the woman took the children to unknown destinations.
Oyeyemi said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Mowe SP Marvis Jayeola mobilised his men to the scene upon receipt of the report where both suspects and victims were found.
“The Commissioner of Police (CP) Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
“He equally directed that the victims be kept in safe and protective custody pending when they will be re-united with their respective families,” he said.
