Operatives of the Ogun Police Command have arrested a 29- year- old teacher, Odugbesan Samson, for allegedly kidnapping his eight-year-old pupil identified as Rasaq Akeem.
The spokesperson of the state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said Odugbesan, who was a former teacher of the boy, allegedly kidnapped him when the boy went to school in Arifanla area of Akute in Ifo Local Government Area and hid him in an undisclosed location.
Oyeyemi said the suspect later reached out to the boy’s mother through phone calls and demanded N200, 000 ransom. The victim’s mother, Fatimat Akeeb, reported the incident at Ajuwon Divisional Police Headquarters.
She said the Divisional Police Officer, Ajuwon Division, Andrew Akinseye, led a team of detectives to investigate the matter, who discovered the suspect’s hideout, lured him out with part payment of ransom before he was arrested.
When interrogated, the suspect admitted to committing the crime but blamed it on the devil.
The spokesperson added that the matter has been transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation and prosecution.
