Some petroleum tanker drivers who went around to shut down filling stations in Kano in protest over the arrest of four of its members for alleged attempt to smuggle petroleum products out of the country, have been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS).
The tanker drivers were arrested on Tuesday February 18, on charges of illegally closing down filling stations. Confirming the arrest, a DSS operative told The Nation that eight filling stations shut down by the PTD members, had already been opened.
The DSS operative said;
“We have arrested so many of them for closing down filling stations without justifications, This is because we cannot allow lawlessness in the State”.
Spokesman of Kano’s command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Danbaba lsah confirmed the arrest of the tanker drivers at a border town of Katsina state. He also said one of the drivers was released after investigation revealed he was genuinely distributing the product to road constructors.
