Former US Vice-president Joe Biden is set to be the Democratic nominee for president in the upcoming November US elections after winning more states on Tuesday night’s primaries, giving Bernie Sanders a massive lead.
Biden had lagged behind his Democratic rivals in early voting states, but rebounded after big wins on Super Tuesday and endorsements from several former rivals Andrew Yang, Amy Kloubachar, Pete Buttigieg and Sen. Kamala Harris. Biden won a major swing state Michigan, alongside Missouri, Mississippi and Idaho and it’s unclear if Bernie Sanders will keep fighting till the party’s convention in July.
Thanking supporters on Tuesday evening, Mr Biden said Democrats could beat Donald Trump.
“It’s more than a comeback, this campaign,” he said. “It’s comeback for the soul of this
nation.”
“Tonight we are a step closer to restoring dignity and honour to the White House,” Mr Biden added.
“We have to lead the world again,” the former vice-president said. “Donald Trump’s America First policy has made America alone.”
To secure the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination, a candidate needs the support of 1,991 delegates and before Tuesday’s vote, Joe Biden had 648 to Mr Sanders’ 563…
