Photos purporting to be of Harvey Weinstein watching TV in Bellevue hospital following his recent rape conviction has emerged.
Instead of being taken to Rikers Island jail ahead of his 11 March sentencing, Weinstein is currently under guard in his Bellevue hospital room after being admitted for suffering chest pains.
Last week, Weinstein was found guilty on two out of five counts of a criminal sexual act in the first degree and rape in the third degree
Following the conviction, he was handcuffed and led out of the courtroom while the judge said he will request that Weinstein be held in the infirmary after his lawyers said he needs medical attention following an unsuccessful back surgery.
After he was taken to the hospital, his spokesperson claimed he “stares at the four walls” all day.
In the first images purported to be of the disgraced Hollywood mogul, Weinstein can be seen in the hospital TV room gazing up at the screen.
According to a source who spoke to Pix11 – who first obtained the images – Weinstein “is free to roam and is not handcuffed.” The source added that he is “treated like any other person.”
“He is walking with the aide of a wheelchair. He is holding on to its handles to go to the TV room, using it as a walker, where he spent about an hour this morning and then walked himself back,” the source said.
It comes after Weinstein’s spokesperson said the former Hollywood producer is finding his stay in Bellevue difficult and is “very, very low”.
Juda Engelmayer, told Reuters he spent an hour and half with Weinstein on Friday.
“It’s scaring him. I think he’s melancholy,” he added. “He’s very, very low right now. He doesn’t like being left alone. When no one’s there, he said he’s just staring at the four walls. He can go stir crazy just staring at the emptiness.”
Weinstein will remain in custody until his 11 March sentencing. He faces up to 29 years in prison.
