A gay Nigerian man who was a victim of homophobia has revealed that he was stalked, kidnapped, tortured, and possibly raped because of his sexuality.
@Meziemjanet shared his horrific story on Twitter while adding his voice to the trending Twitter hashtag that’s calling for an end to homophobia in Nigeria.
The call was intensified after a gay man from Benue state was killed by one Kito, aka Utali Ekwenu (The devil’s cane) and his accomplice Chidi
Sharing his own experience with Homophobia, @Meziemjanet said he was kidnapped last year by two men in a Keke after weeks of being stalked. He was then taken to an unknown location where he was stripped naked and beaten until he passed out.
He said by the time he woke up, his anus was sore and wet and he suspected he might have been raped.
He said he was also tortured with a “mortar” and “knife”.
He added that his abductors told him that he’s trying to legalize LGBTQ in Nigeria and they won’t let him. After torturing him, he said they made him sing worship songs and asked him to pray to God to forgive his sins.
They later released him after his family had paid a ransom for him.
