BACOLOD CITY – An Eastern grass owl was found in a sugarcane field at Barangay Alicante, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental on Tuesday.
Capt. Wilfredo Benoman Jr., town police chief, said some residents sighted the owl and turned it over to the police.
Benoman said the owl probably wandered off the area that day.
According to birdlife.org.au, the Eastern grass owl is sometimes known as the “Daddy Long-legs Owl,” reflecting the prominence of its elongated, slender legs which are an adaption to living in marshy sedge lands, farmland, canefields and other open habitats with tussocks of grass.
The police turned over the owl to the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office for proper disposition.
