First Lady of Nigeria, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari has called for a total lockdown of activities in Nigeria to avoid the continuous spread of the deadly coronavirus also known as COVID-19 across the country.
Aisha Buhari who was reacting to the death of the first victim of the virus in Nigeria in a post on her official Facebook page on Monday commended the decision by state governors to close down schools.
However, she noted that the move may be counterproductive if parents are still going to work.
She therefore called for a total lockdown, so everybody can stay at home to curtail the spread of the virus.
She wrote: “It is commendable that state governors have closed down schools; however, this could be counterproductive if parents are still going to work. We should not isolate students and expose their parents.
“Let us remember that they will meet at home.#TotalLockDown #StayAtHome,” Aisha Buhari wrote.
The comments of the First Lady comes as the Federal Government on Monday directed workers in the public sector to work from home following the spread of coronavirus in the country.
A circular issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), titled: “Compulsory Stay at Home of Non-Essential Public Servants on GL 12 And Below As A Further Measure to Curtail The Spread of COVID-19,” and signed by the Head of Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, said the directive took effect from Tuesday.
According to the circular, the stay-at-home order covers public servants on grade level 12 and below.
