Supporters of Bernie Sanders, the socialist Democrat who recently gave up his US presidential ambitions after he was defeated in the primaries by former US Vice President Joe Biden, are calling for Biden to quit the presidential race and let Sanders take over as the Democrat nominee after new details and evidence of a woman, Tara Reade’s sexual assault allegations against Biden resurfaced.
According to Sanders supporters, Democrats are destroying the progress of the #meToo movement meant to shed light on the sexual abuse of women by men in power and authority by not taking Tara Reade’s allegations seriously as different Democrat controlled networks refused to shed light on the new evidence against Biden that resurfaced fearing it may hurt his chances against Donald Trump in the November 2020 elections.
In the latest revelations about Tara Reade’s alleged sexual assault by Biden, a footage has emerged of former CNN host Larry King receiving a phone call from Reade’s mom, Jeanette Altimus in 1993 and in the phone call she told Larry King her daughter had ‘problem’ with ‘prominent senator’ .
That year, Reade was a staffer for then-Senator Joe Biden of Delaware and she alleged Biden forcibly kissed her, groped her, and assaulted her close to his office.
Reade (pictured above in 2020) claims she was sexually assaulted by Biden when she was in her 20s and that she complained to her superiors in Biden’s office but got nowhere. She said as at the time of the alleged crime, she reported to her mum, brother and a friend.
Reade was among several women who came out in 2019 alleging Biden touched them inappropriately but did not make her allegation of sexual assault until journalist Katie Halper interviewed her for her ‘Katie Halper Show’ podcast on March 25.
Reade told Halper that the assault happened when she went to deliver a gym bag to Biden. Reade said she tracked down Biden on Capitol Hill and he remembered her name.
‘And then we were alone. And it was the strangest thing. There was no, like, exchange really, he just had me up against the wall,’ she said.
She revealed she was wearing a work skirt.
‘He just had me up against the wall and the wall was cold,’ she said. ‘His hands were on me and underneath my clothes. He went down my skirt and then up inside it and he penetrated me with his fingers. He was kissing me at the same time,’ she said.
She said that when she ‘pulled back,’ Biden ‘looked annoyed.’ and said to her, ‘Come on man, I heard you liked me.’
The footage of the Larry King show where Reade’s mum called in, which were in CNN’s archives, were never dug out by CNN even when she first made her allegations despite that Reade filed an official criminal complaint against Biden on April 9.
Biden, who is on verge of wrapping up nomination for the Democratic Party, has denied the allegations.
Shaun King, a top Sanders supporter, said on Twitter that prominent Democrats won’t speak up in support of Reade because ‘they think it will help Trump’ while another Journalist Glenn Greenwald tweeted that ‘liberals are destroying all the #MeToo progress right before your eyes in order to protect Biden and trash his accuser as an unstable liar’
A professor who is an expert on sexual trauma, and a Bernie Sanders supporter tweeted that he found Reade’s allegations ‘credible’.
As at Sunday morning, the hashtag #DropOutBiden was trending on Twitter.
