8 face masks for acne prone skin

We all know that having acne-prone skin can cause a lot of inconveniences.

One day you could be doing fine and the other day you wake up with an acne breakout and you have no idea what caused it.

It could be a certain food, an ingredient in a face wash or just your hormones. Lots of beauty companies these days make lots of spot treatments, anti pimple face masks, acne masks, etc.

But do face masks actually get rid of pimples? Well, they can definitely help on a surface level.

Today we’re going to tell you about a couple of face masks you can make at home DIY style that can help with acne-prone skin.

1. Turmeric & honey face mask
Turmeric is known for being an anti-inflammatory ingredient in cooking but the same is true when it comes to beauty products. Most of you will have in the spice drawer and you can totally use it to reduce inflammation on your skin. Just mix half a teaspoon of turmeric with 1 tablespoon of honey and spread all over your face. Honey, in turn, will soften and soothe your skin while keeping it moisturized. Leave for 10 minutes and rinse off.

2. Aloe vera & matcha face mask
Aloe vera gel is incredibly soothing and will help a lot if you have itchy inflamed skin, while matcha will reduce the redness. They’re like a match made in heaven for dry red itchy skin. Just mix together about 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel (it’s even better if you have the plant and can just take the juice straight from the leaf) and 1 teaspoon of matcha powder. You can leave this on for 15 minutes and then wash off and remember to put on moisturizer.

3. Avocado & honey face mask
We know avocado is good for us, in every single way (unless you’re allergic). So putting it in a facemask is a no brainer. It’ll moisturize and soothe your skin while honey will work on plumping it up and making your pores shrink. Honey also has antibacterial properties which is great. You can keep this on your face between 10 and 20 minutes.

4. Nutmeg & aspirin face mask
If you have an angry red pimple or inflammation on your skin but you have an event to go to the next day or in the evening – this DIY treatment is a lifesaver. Crush up 1 tablet of aspirin with just a bit of nutmeg (like on the edge of your teaspoon) and a bit of yoghurt to make a paste. Use as a spot treatment on zits and inflamed areas only. Leave on for 15 minutes and gently wash off with warm water.

5. Turmeric & yogurt face mask
Turmeric is one of the best ingredients when it comes to inflamed skin and acne. Some people even use it on its own by mixing in a little water. But that can stain your skin yellow for a few days. So we suggest you mix a teaspoon of turmeric powder with however much yoghurt you need for one face mask. Keep it on for 10 minutes and wash off following up with a moisturizer.

6. Honey & baking soda & lemon face mask
This DIY face mask is perfect as a light exfoliation. Baking soda is actually soothing for your skin, and in combination with lemon juice, it’ll provide light exfoliation while honey will soothe further and moisturize your skin. Make sure not to rub this mask on though, you don’t need to do that, just put it on gently and leave for 10 minutes.

7. Tea tree oil & clay face mask
Tea tree oil is a powerful antibacterial ingredient that can help you get rid of pimples almost overnight. Many spot treatments have it as their main ingredient. So make sure to use it sparingly, because too much of it can cause irritation and dryness. Mix 1 or 2 drops (that’s all you need) of tea tree oil into your clay face mask and leave on for 15 minutes. Use this mask once a week.

8. Avocado & lemon & honey face mask
This is a great spot treatment. All you need is some mashed avocado, a teaspoon of honey and some freshly squeezed lemon juice. The honey will fight the bacteria, the avocado will moisturize and the lemon will lighten hyperpigmentation. What’s not to like? Use as a spot treatment and not all over the face. Leave on for up to 10 minutes and wash off.
