address to a joint session of Congress with a black sequined Michael Kors skirt suit.
The glitzy ensemble looked like it was purchased on a cruise ship — and resembled something Liza Minnelli could have worn in “Cabaret” — but was actually
part of the designer’s Spring 2017 line, retailing for just under $10,000.
Melania has been careful to wear mostly American designers in her new role, but the glittery congressional number was a bit of a departure from outfits like the conservative powder-blue Ralph Lauren she wore to the inauguration, or the subtle white Hervé Pierre gown she donned for the balls
First Daughter Ivanka Trump was somewhat more subdued in fuchsia. Rather than wearing her own label, which she’s taken
flak for in the past, she chose an off-the- shoulder Roland Mouret, which seemed thrifty by comparison at a reported $3,000.
Both looks stood out from the typically more staid looks First Ladies have worn for such
events. Michelle Obama famously caught heat for her one State of the Union foray into glitter, a black-and-maroon Jason Wu
she wore in 2013 that people said looked like she was going to a C0cktail party.
