Heather, Derick Jones Auto Crash death: How 2 Beacon residents Heather Morgan & Derick Jones died
An SUV went off I-84 westbound and crashed into a tree early Friday, killing both people in the vehicle, according to state police.
The crash, between Exits 5 and 5A in the Orange County town of Montgomery, claimed the lives of Heather Morgan, 36, and Derick Jones, 37, both of Beacon, police said. Morgan was driving.
Police said the SUV, a Dodge Journey, went off the highway and into the center median about 6:40 a.m. before striking a tree.
State police spokesman Trooper Steven Nevel said neither Morgan nor Jones was wearing a seat belt. He did not know if air bags opened on impact, and police did not say what might have caused the crash.
