Global citizen is launching a new programme engineered to identify and empower promising local youth with the talent and work ethic to support the group in achieving its goals of ending extreme poverty by 2030.
The programme follows on from the success of the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 which happened in December last year which was the first Global Citizens event hosted in Africa.
The fellowship programme is funded by the talented actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry and is administered through BeyGOOD. The foundation established in New York City by Beyoncé .
The fellowship will provide 10 to 15 young people with the opportunity to serve paid year-long fellowships with the foundation. Each recipient will focus one of the Global Citizens four pillars of activity which are creative, campaigns, rewards and marketing.
The programme consists of a five phase curriculum, and each Fellow is allocated a supervisor from the Global Citizen Africa team.

The supervisor will support the Fellow through their daily work as well as providing mentorship opportunities with entertainment, business, government and civil society leaders to further develop their innate talents.
The first four phases of the program will encompass leadership, advocacy, international development and global citizenship. Fellows will participate in various masterclasses as well as field trips specifically designed to develop them into value-based, community centred leaders.
The final phase will develop skills and provide resources to the Fellows to assist them in entering the job market after the end of the fellowship. The program is geared toward developing the participants to help them to achieve all the personal and social goals they have set themselves.
