It would be mission impossible for Arsenal as they head into their Champions League second leg game against Bayern Munich,with the hope of turning around the
5-1 first leg deficit.
The Gunners will host Bayern at the Emirates Stadium today and must score at least four goals against their visitors if they are to
have any chance of progressing to the quarter -finals.
Coming off a 3-1 loss to Liverpool on Saturday, the last thing Arsenal needs is another mauling. Whilst a win, unless by a high score, will not be enough for them to
advance.
Bayern, on the other hand, are in a rich vein of form, and haven’t suffered a defeat in any competition since November, winning 14 of their last 16 matches.
Carlo Ancelotti’s squad is brimming with confidence having a seven-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga.In the four games
since the last leg they’ve scored 15 times, including an 8-0 win over Hamburg.
The Gunners will be without German playmaker Mesut Ozil, who has been ruled out of the crucial tie due to illness and
recent form has seen them win just one league game from their last four.
Four of Arsenal’s last six Champions League defeats at Emirates Stadium have come in
the last 16, with two of those losses coming at the hands of Bayern Munich in 2013 and
2014.
Since the beginning of 2003/04, Arsenal have lost just 10 of their 62 home games in the Champions League, however six of those
defeats have come in the knockout stages.
No club has progressed in a Champions League knockout tie after losing the first leg
by 4+ goals. A first-leg four goal deficit has happened nine times before this season, with six of those occasions seeing the
defeated team play the first leg away from home.
