Ziplining was originally created as a form of transportation across places that were impossible to pass (especially mountainsides, rain forests, etc).
The zipline was used for centuries as a means of transportation in China, it allowed local residents to cross rivers.
Mentioned as an “an inclined strong” in The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells, published in 1897, it became popular in the Australian outback to deliver food and supplies to those laboring on the other side of a gully or river.
It was also employed by Australian troops to transport food, mail, and ammunition into conflict areas.
The world’s longest zipline is the 2.8 kilometer Jebel Jais Flight at Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates.
As of September 2015, the steepest zipline in the world with a maximum 58.6% incline debuted at Letalnica Brasov Gorišek in Planica, Slovenia.
In recent times, ziplining has become undoubtedly one of the world’s most exciting pastimes, and more people are trying out this adventurous activity they call ‘facing their fears’.
However, when going for ziplining, there are things one needs to prepare ahead of.
It is strongly advised that if you are acrophobic, a known heart condition patient, or pregnant, you are not supposed to go ziplining.
It is also advised to wear tight-fitting clothes, shoes, jewelry, and tie loose hair and listen carefully to the guide’s instructions before doing anything.
