One of the reasons many people plan a holiday to Kenya is to see one of the country’s most iconic building, the Giraffe Manor, located within almost 57 hectares of indigenous forest in the Langata suburb of Nairobi.
This small manor-turned-hotel is surrounded by some of the most beautiful, endangered creatures in the world – Rothschild giraffes.
The manor was built in 1932 and opened as a hotel in 1984. The building offers guests the lifetime opportunity to hang out with long-necked mammalian friends.
These giraffes pay a visit to the manor almost every morning and evening, poking their heads into the windows to look for something to eat.
Guests can also take photos with these with the giraffes and interact with them. Right after, the animals head back to their home in the nearby woodlands.
The Giraffe Manor is an exclusive boutique hotel, owned by The Safari Collection.
Often referred to as one of the most Instagrammed properties in the world, Giraffe Manor is set in 12 acres of private land within 140 acres of indigenous forest in the Langata suburb of Nairobi.
It is one of Nairobi’s most iconic buildings. The historic manor house has extraordinary appeal, that dates back to the 1930s when visitors first flocked to East Africa to enjoy safaris.
One of the most fascinating things about Giraffe Manor remains its resident herd of Rothschild’s giraffes who may visit morning and evening, poking their long necks into the windows in the hope of a treat, before retreating to their forest sanctuary.
It is definitely a thrilling experience to find the friendly giraffes in the most unsuspecting places, like the breakfast table or your room window, vying for your attention and checking out what’s on your plate.
Visitors could also relax on the verandah where they can hand-feed these friendly long-necked beauties.
Other interesting activities include forest walks to see the variety of bird species and rare animals found here, visits to the AFEW Giraffe Centre and the Karen Blixen Museum.
