Nigerian songstress, Seyi Shay makes her comeback with “All I ever wanted” featuring Ghanian artist, King Promise which was produced by Lussh.
9. Asa – Murder in the USA
Bukola Elemide also known as Asa released her fourth studio album, Lucid in 2019, and “Murder in the USA” is the lead single from the album.
8. Tems – Try Me
Tems took the music industry by surprise with her hit single, “Try Me” and clinched a spot on BBC’s DJ Edu “ten artists to watch” in 2020. Her feature in American singer, Khalid’s 2020 song, “Know your worth remix” brought her international prominence.
7. Sinach – Omemma
Sinach is ranked as one of the A-list Gospel artists in Nigeria whose songs have brought her international prominence. The singer who boasts of hit songs like “I know who I am”, “Waymaker”, “Awesome Wonder” amongst others released “Omemma” in 2019 and featured upcoming indigenous rapper, Nolly.
6. Tiwa savage – 49-99
Former Mavin Records’ first lady, Tiwa Savage who joined Universal Music Group in 2019 released “49-99”, as her first single with the label. The song references the line “49 sitting, 99 standing” from Fela Kuti‘s 1978 hit “Shuffering and Shmiling”.
5. Niniola – FANTASY
Singer and Songwriter, Niniola released Fantasy featuring Femi Kuti in 2020. The track, which pairs Niniola’s seductive vocal notes with a vintage Afrobeat horn arrangement from Femi Kuti and rich musical textures courtesy of Music producer KEL-P,
4. Teni – Isolate ft DJ Neptune
Teni released Isolate featuring DJ Neptune as the lead single from her 2020 EP, “Quarantine Playlist”. The song was originally a freestyle Teni posted on her social media but after much persuasion from fans to drop the song, Teni released the song. The track was produced by P.Prime
3. Yemi Alade – Shekere
Yemi Alade released Shekere alongside Beninese veteran singer, Angelique Kidjo and the song has received positive reviews. Yemi Alade revealed during an interview that Shekere was birthed after Angelique Kidjo had asked Yemi Alade to remake her 1996 hit song, “Wombo Lombo”.
2. Mercy Chinwo – Obinasom
Gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo came into the spotlight after she released “Excess Love” in 2018 and went to release songs like “Chinedum”, “Akamdinelu” in 2019. She released “Obinasom” as her first single for the year 2020.
1. Simi – duduke
Simi released Duduke as her first single for 2020 and the first single under her newly formed record label, “Studio Brat”. The song which is less than three minutes was found to be dedicated to Simi’s unborn child after she revealed her baby bump in the Music video.
