When certain things are carried out, or processes, we tend to want to understand why people do these things. Even after hearing the reasons, we sometimes seem not to be convinced that the reason makes any sense.
The world is full of odd people who constantly do odd things. Thanks to the media we’re able to learn about those horror stories that tend to make our hair stand on end. While most people these days are showing a lack of interest in history due to being drawn in celeb gossips, they’re others who are curious to learn more about the world we call home.
With that said, meet the French woman by the name of Blanche Monnier who was thought to be the most beautiful human in her generation. Blanche was a socialite born in a well-respected family. Her beauty and physique was a magnet that attracted potential wealthy bachelors who showed interest in marrying her.
At the age of 25, Blanche Monnier fell in love with an older lawyer and they were planning on getting married. However, her mom didn’t approve of her love with the lawyer saying that he wasn’t wealthy enough nor suited for Blanche.
For some reason, the power of love made Blanche rebel against her mother threatening to elope. Feeling disrespected and threatened Blanche’s mother, Louise Monnier, and her brother Marcel decided to lock Blanche in a small room in the attic of their house.
The room was so tiny and very dark making it an unsuitable environment to keep a person inside. Louise Monnier and Marcel continued with their daily lives and pretended to mourn Blanche’s death. Nobody knew her whereabouts including her older lover who eventually died by sadness.
For some reason, it was reported that Blanche was not being properly fed in the room. Her mother will only pass her leftover crumps without letting her out. After 25 years the Paris Attorney General received a letter from an anonymous sender reporting the sinister crime.
Blanche Monnier was later rescued by police officers. She was found in an extremely bad condition covered with rotten food and feces. Her bed and the floor had many bugs running around and the air was so unbreathable. Due to the stinking odor, the policemen weren’t able to stay for long minutes. She was believed to have weighed less than 25 kilograms.
Despite being rescued, Blanche Monnier suffered from mental health due to psychological complications. Consequently, Blanche was admitted to a psychiatric hospital to be treated. Unfortunately, she was never the same and that resulted in her death in 1913.
