Nipsey Hussle made a huge impact on Los Angeles during his lifetime and now he’ll be honored with his own square.
Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson took to his Twitter account yesterday saying:
“Proud to honor #nipseyhussle by dedicating #crenshaw and #slauson as “Nipsey Hussle Square”.
In a press release Marqueece said:
“Ermias Asghedom known as Nipsey Hussle was an icon and West Coast hero. Nipsey’s genuine nature allowed him to be a light to everyone he interacted with from family, friends, fans, and his larger community. As a father, brother, and son, Nipsey was a rock helping to build an empire that will continue through generations. Nipsey will always be remembered for delivering a pure, authentic Los Angeles sound, his numerous philanthropic efforts, his innovative, community-focused business mindset, and his humble heart.”
The corner of Crenshaw Boulevard and West Slauson Avenue will be renamed Nipsey Hussle Square in memory of the Victory Lap rapper. He was gunned down in front of his The Marathon Clothing store on March 31st.
There will be a celebration of life for Nipsey Hussle at the Los Angeles STAPLES Center tomorrow. Tickets sold out in a half hour.
Artists such as Kanye West, Drake, J. Cole, Big Sean, Dave East, Kendrick Lamar, and ScHoolboy Q have shown their respect to Nipsey and his family by remembering him in various ways. The hip hop community will forever miss him.
Nipsey Hussle planned to release an album with Meek Mill this year. He was also working on a sophomore LP, which he had already begun promoting with “Racks In The Middle” featuring Roddy Ricch and Hit-Boy. Nick Cannon stepped up and said he will finish Nipsey’s documentary and the late rapper will appear on DJ Khaled’s forthcoming project Father Of Asahd next month as well.
R.I.P. Nipsey Hussle.
