Inis Beag is said to be one of the most s*xually repressive societies in the world. S*x culture is a very taboo topic because not a lot of people are comfortable talking about s*x.
Many of us have the belief that the way we think about s*x is the only way to think about it. Keep in mind while reading this that although it may seem weird it’s just a different perspective.
The people of this island are uneducated about a lot of s*xual activities such as french kissing, oral s(x, or even homos*xuality. S*x education is non-existent because they’re too embarrassed to talk about it. Parents trust their children will wait until marriage and then nature will take its course.
Since s*x education is non-existent in this society, women fear their own bodies. They are afraid of menopause and menstruation. It is believed that menopause comes with insanity.
Men consider women to be dangerous during menopause, menstruation, and months after childbirth. They also will not have s*x the night before they have to work because they believe it is bad for your health.
The Messengers spoke to every one of the inhabitants and found that not only was s*x education nonexistent, but only three mothers had given their daughters any kind of heads up as to what expect on the wedding night, with most preferring instead to ‘let nature take its course’.
The elders of the island claimed that there was no premarital or extramarital s*x taking place, and in terms of s*xual diversity, nothing beyond male masturbation and heteros*xual intercourse was reported to be taking place.
No oral, anal, or fingering was mentioned by any of the islanders surveyed, and many of them expressed shock and surprise at the idea of such a thing. There was no evidence of the female orgasm; instead, women treated s*x as something to be endured.
Something that isn’t as common in this society is nudity. Babies are the only ones that are allowed to be naked. Even when bathing adults wear clothes. All they wash is their face, neck, lower arms, hands, lower legs, and feet. They also have intercourse with their underwear on.
Nudity was a source of intense shame and embarrassment to the islanders, to the point wherein some homes, pet dogs who licked their genitals were whipped until they learned to do it outside.
