be surprised to know that more than 16 crore books and other documents are kept in these libraries, in which maps and photographs from
around the world are also stored.
Library of Congress, Washington -This library is in Washington, the United States of America, known as the ‘Library of Congress’. It is
about 219 years old. It was founded on April 24, 1800, there are 470 languages books, which are kept on shelves of about 1349 km long.
You will be surprised to know that more than 3000 people work in this library.
British Library, London-The London-based ‘British Library’ is considered the second largest library in the world, with about 150 million
books and other ancient and new documents. The library was established as an independent institution on 1 July 1973, under the British
Library Act 1972.
New York Public Library-If we talk about the world’s third-largest library, it is the “New York Public Library” of America. It is the second-
largest library in America. Books and other documents exist here around five crores 30 lakhs and it was established in the year 1895.
Library and Archive, Canada-Canada’s ‘Library and Archive’, ranked fourth in the world’s largest library, houses more than 50 million books
and other documents. If we talk about books only, then their number here is about two crores. The library is located in Ottawa, which was
established in 2004.
Russian State Library, Moscow-The Russian State Library, located in Moscow, the capital of Russia, is the fifth largest library in the world.
There are around 40 million books and other ancient and new documents here. Only the number of books in it is close to one crore 70
lakhs. These books and documents are kept on 275 km long shelves.
