Bella Hadid and The Weeknd have made no secret of the fact they’re back together and happier than ever, thanks to all those sweet Instagram posts about each other. So it was pretty obvious that they’d choose a couple’s costume for Halloween – but this one is pretty special. The pair dressed as Beetlejuice and Lydia – played by Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder in the 1988 comedy – for costumes that were equal parts creative and appropriately festive.
Bravo, you two. Bella, 22, and The Weeknd, 28, were in attendance at Heidi Klum’s iconic annual Halloween party in New York City, so they had to step their game up to get noticed. The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, was unrecognisable beneath his ghoulish face paint and messy green hair, transforming into the devious and at times disgusting ghost. The Can’t Feel My Face singer wore a frilled shirt, a bow tie and a maroon suit for Beetlejuice’s wedding look – accompanying Bella/Lydia who was a very gothic bride.
The model donned an over-the-top scarlet gown and veil, spiked her fringe, and carried a bunch of roses to play Winona Ryder’s character. The pair seemed rather proud with their costumes, with Bella sharing pics to Instagram calling her beau ‘the ghost with the most’ and writing: ‘Yelled beetlejuice 3 times and he appeared.’ Meanwhile, The Weeknd captioned a picture on his own Insta: ‘Showtime.’
While we adored Bella and The Weeknd’s looks, they were pipped to the post for best couple’s costume of the night by Heidi Klum and Tom Kaulitz. Heidi – who is known for her epic fancy dress ideas – transformed into Princess Fiona, with her boyfriend ogre-fied to become Shrek. Now that’s what we call an effort.
