Donald Trump has an awkward moment to remember from his second inauguration as United States President after the 78-year-old managed to completely miss his wife’s face whilst leaning in for a kiss.
The Republican politician officially returns to the Oval Office for the second time and he will be hoping it goes slightly better than his failed public display of affection attempt with Melania, whom he married in 2005.
Despite being a model who previously shot nude, the 54-year-old First Lady is notoriously uncomfortable with public gestures and regularly avoids them and the same thing seems to have happened at the Capitol Building once again.
As her husband leaned in, Melania did not go nearly close enough for his lips to make contact with her skin as she looked very formal in a ladies’ suit and wore a large blue and white hat to help hide her face.
After missing his wife, he then seemed to smile awkwardly before going on to chat with other members of the gathered audience, moments before he was sworn in before the outgoing Bidens.
Joe Biden then appeared to say a prayer as Trump and his vice-president, J.D Vance, took their oaths. The 82-year-old is a lifelong catholic, although it has not been revealed what he was praying for.
Trump’s awkward Melania moments
Trump will have five years in the White House before he will be compelled to leave, because nobody is permitted to serve more than two terms as the USA’s president so on the final time he was inaugurated, he was joined by his family, including three sons and a daughter.
The last time the 78-year-old was inaugurated, in 2017 after beating Hillary Clinton, he had an awkward moment where he rushed up the steps to greet Barack Obama, He appeared to forget about his wife, who walked alone and spent the rest of the day scowling.
Then on a visit to Tel-Aviv in May 2017, they had another hiccup where Trump tried to hold his wife’s hand, only for her to shun it by not closing her hand with his.
