Spicy foods, with their tantalizing heat and vibrant flavours, have ignited palates worldwide for centuries.

Whether it’s the fiery kick of chilli peppers or the complex warmth of exotic spices, they awaken the senses and create a symphony of taste.

Beyond the immediate sensation, spicy foods are known to release endorphins, invoking a pleasurable rush. But, eating spicy food often causes a burning sensation in the mouth along with stomach pain.

When this burning sensation gets too much, it gets unbearable and often we drink a lot of water to pacify it but it doesn’t go away.

We have listed a few tips that can come in handy when you have had spicy foods. Take a look.

1. Consume dairy products
When there is a very intense burning sensation due to spicy food, one can consume milk or dairy products to cool it down immediately. And the reason for the same is, milk contains a protein called casein, which gives milk its white colour. According to WebMD, “80 per cent of cow’s milk contains a protein called casein, which is transferred in various foods made with yoghurt, cheese, etc.” In order to calm the burning sensation, make sure you consume curd and cheese but made from cow’s milk.

2. Drink some lemonade
You can also consume lemonade to reduce the burning sensation in the mouth due to spicy food. This is especially beneficial for people who are allergic to milk or milk products. Lemon water is acidic, which provides instant relief from astringency. Apart from lemon water, you can also drink orange juice, tomato juice, and lime juice.

3. Ice
By the way, experts say that to reduce the burning sensation in the mouth of spicy food, one should not drink water. This does not reduce the burning of the mouth. However, a piece of ice can be placed in the mouth. The coldness of ice works to cut the burning sensation. Gradually, the burning sensation in the mouth ends completely.

4. Eat bread
As per experts, eating a piece of bread will absorb the saliva produced due to the sharpness or spiciness caused by spicy foods. In this way, gradually the pungency will reduce and the burning sensation in the mouth will also start reducing.

5. Lukewarm water & honey
It’s a simple home remedy that can be used to get rid of the spiciness. Take a glass of lukewarm water and mix 1 tsp honey in it. Whenever you consume spicy foods that can’t be pacified easily, consume this honey water. It coats a simple layer on the tongue which pacifies the spiciness, and reduces the burning sensation in the mouth.
