The Corporate Affairs Commission’s act of deregistering Enough Is Enough has been alleged to have been done erroneously.
Recall that some national dailies had reported that the deregistration was targeted “at a prominent civic group based in Lagos, in suspected escalation of government crackdown on prominent #EndSARS frontliners”
The CAC had said in series of tweets shared on Tuesday November 10, that Enough is Enough was deregistered for deviating from its main objectives over the course of time. The federal agency stated that ‘Enough is Enough’ was registered in 2012 to engage in general contracts, sales of sport equipment/promotion.
President Buhari’s media aide, Bashir Ahmad who tweeted shortly after CAC’s announcement had also shared a tweet with the civil group’s abbreviation “EiE”, suggesting they were the ones deregistered.
However it’s been learnt that the deregistered company which was registered as a general-purpose firm, bears a similar name to a Civil Society Organisation, Enough is Enough Nigeria, which is actually registered as EiE Project Limited.
The civil group confirmed this by sharing a photo of its Certificate of Incorporation. The accompanying tweet read;
“Enough is Enough Nigeria aka EiE Nigeria aka EiE is registered as: The EiE Project Ltd/Gte”. A big thank you to those who have reached out & spoken up for us! A luta continua! Vitória é certa!”
Some Twitter users have now taken to the platform to mock the CAC over the gaffe. See some tweets below…..
