Management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, yesterday declared three days of mourning following the deaths of six students and two lecturers in a ghastly auto crash along Oyo/Ibadan road on Monday evening. National Mirror learnt that the lone accident which involved an 18-seater Hummer bus of the Quantity Surveying department of the school, occurred as a result of burst tyre at about 6pm at Omotunde Village along Oyo Road, as the vehicle was conveying the affected students and staff to Oyo. It occurred barely 24 hours after a fatal auto crash involving an articulated vehicle and Peugeot bus that claimed over 17 lives along the Ibadan-Lagos expressway. The management of the polytechnic, in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Soladoye Adewole, and made available to journalists, announcing the three days of mourning, called for fasting and prayers to prevent recurrence ofthe ugly incident. The atmosphere in the school yesterday was solemn with the students gathering in twos and threes discussing the ugly development while intra-campus commercial motorists also suspended work throughout the day in solidarity with the mourning students and staff.
