A MAN has been jailed for burglary after the victim told police to look for Cristiano Ronaldo’s double.
But the defendant’s lawyer tried to get him off, by insisting the Real Madrid superstar was there to prove the likeness.
Tahir Lani and accomplice Ndreke Cezmja were caught red-handed attempting to enter a house at night in the French town of Saint-Max.
They scarpered when the owner caught them trying to force open one of the windows.
But the pair did not get away with it after the victim gave police a bizarre description of the culprits.
According to French paper L’Est Republicain, cops were given details of the clothes that the two robbers were wearing – and told that one was the spitting image of the three time Ballon d’Or winner.
It is claimed that police promptly identified that Lani was the ‘Ronaldo’ they were looking for.
In court, lawyer Alexandra Boutonnet quipped: “I could request the attendance on Mr Ronaldo because I do not think my client looks like him.”
But the Portuguese ace was not required as Lani and Cezmja – who are both Albanian – later confessed to the crime.
They were each sentenced to one year in prison.
