Legendary fuji musician, Abass Akande Obesere has given the lyrics and meaning for his hit and trending song titled “Egungun be careful” which was released 18 years ago.
According to the singer, Obesere said the song was just a warning slang to caution someone who is going in a dangerous way.
Obesere while explaining the song, Egungun Be Careful Na Express You Dey Go said:
“It’s just a slang. I just thought of it, It’s a slang. Because a masquerade is masked, He has an handler that leads him. So when the handler says “Don’t go in that direction” because as he’s masked, there are things that he can’t see.
“So if he’s heading for the expressway, the handler will tell him, “Mr Masquerade be careful, you’re heading to the expressway”. The handler knows the actual name of the masked one but he can’t say it.
“The person could be named Fatai or Sulaiman or Ganiyu, he can’t call him that. He has to call him “Masquerade” Be careful, you’re heading to the highway, You could get hit by a car.
“And when the masquerade refused to head his handler’s direction and run into the road, and got hit by a car, the handler said “it’s happened now, I warned him and now he’s been knocked down by a car.”
