The latest song by sensational Kenyan boy band Ethic ‘Chapa Chapa‘ has been ranked as number one on YouTube’s trending videos.
The song which premiered on Friday at 12:00 pm has gained more than 200,000 views and over 1,000 comments.
Prior to Ethic topping on YouTube’s trending videos, Diamond latest song ‘Yope Remix’ featuring Congolese musician Innoss’B was the one leading.
The song which was released approximately one week ago went viral and gained more than one million views within 16 hours of its premiere on YouTube.
Diamond is considered as one the most celebrated and successful musicians not just in East Africa but in the entire continent. It is therefore not surprising to see his videos gain over 4 million views within just a week.
Ethic’s displacement of Diamond to become the leading on YouTube, therefore, means a lot not just to the band but also to Kenyan music.
The ranking of trending videos is influenced by various factors such as the geographical area within which the video is being viewed and the rate at which it gains views within that location.
For Ethic’s song to lead on YouTube, it therefore means it is being viewed at a high frequency in the country.
Ethic among other rising Kenyan boy bands such as Boondocks Gang, Sailors and Ochunglo family has been praised for giving Kenyan music an identity.
The success of ‘Chapa Chapa’ therefore means the identity of Kenyan music has been received positively.
