Grammy Award winner, Jennifer Hudson paid an emotional tribute to Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna while singing at the 2020 NBA All-Star Game on Sunday.
The NBA legend and his daughter, Gianna, died along with seven others in a tragic helicopter crash on Sunday, Jan. 26th.
The 2020 NBA All-Star celebration kicked off with ex-NBA star Magic Johnson addressing the guests in attendance, as he dedicated the evening to both David Stern and Kobe Bryant.
“We will never see another basketball player quite like Kobe,” he said. “He was passionate about being a great father, husband, filmmaker.” He also reflected on the death of NBA commissioner David Stern, who died on New Year’s Day.
After Magic led a moment of silence, he introduced Jennifer Hudson on stage who then performed Donny Hathaway’s “For All We Know,” with images of Bryant and Gianna served as the backdrop for her performance.
Additional tributes during the game included Team Giannis and Team LeBron. The teams were captained by LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Team Giannis will wear No. 24 and Team LeBron will wear No. 2, the respective jersey numbers worn by Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna.
Bryant was an 18-time All-Star who won a record-tying four All-Star Game MVP awards, the NBA said. He was named All-Star Game MVP in 2002, 2007, 2009 and 2011. He was the youngest player to ever play in an All-Star Game at 19 years old in 1998.
