Anton Walkes Biography

Anton Charles Walkes was a professional footballer from England who played defense or midfield. On February 8, 1997, he was born, and on January 18, 2023, he died.

Walkes began his club career in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur. He appeared in the League Cup once for the squad. In 2017, he was loaned to Atlanta United. The loan was extended until August 31, 2017, the conclusion of the 2017 season. Walkes was then loaned to League One club Portsmouth, where he spent the balance of the 2017-18 season until being signed permanently in July 2018. He returned to Portsmouth for two more seasons, winning the EFL Trophy in 2019. He returned to Atlanta United in January 2020. Charlotte FC signed him in 2022, and he remained there until his death a year later.

Anton began his playing career as a child with Tottenham Hotspur. Before signing his first professional contract with the club in 2015, he was in the club’s academy for a few years. In 2016, he played his first game for Tottenham’s first team against Gillingham in the Europa League.

Anton Walkes agreed to play for Atlanta United on loan in 2017 by signing a contract with them in 2016. He played for Atlanta United 14 times in 2017 and made his club debut in March of that year. Anton was a key member of the team that won the Supporters’ Shield, the U.S. Open Cup, and the Campeones Cup. He went back to Tottenham in 2018.

Anton Walkes joined Portsmouth on loan in January 2019. In the summer of the same year, his loan became permanent. Walkes was a key player and a fan favorite at Portsmouth because he was flexible, worked hard, and was athletic. He was an important part of the team that won the League One title in 2019–20.

Anton was picked by Charlotte FC in the MLS Expansion Draft on December 14, 2021. In the first season for the team, he started 21 of the 23 games he played in.

On January 18, 2023, Anton was in Miami. This was the location of Charlotte FC’s 12-day training camp. Two boats collided near Miami Marine Stadium at 3 p.m. Eastern Time, injuring him. He was rushed to the hospital straight after, but died the next day from his injuries at the age of 25. Charlotte FC, his MLS franchise, announced this in a social media statement.
