Domestic Victims are always encouraged to speak out and there are many campaigns against this menace. But all these may not solve domestic violence if perpertrators don’t get prosecuted.
In a chat with HipTv, Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde explained this is a major step in reducing domestic violence cases. the legislation needs to be put in place before domestic violence can be eradicated.
SHE SAID,
Domestic violence is a disease that needs to be cured. It needs to be eradicated and it can be. There are so many other diseases that we are still looking for the cure. But this is the disease that we don’t know the cure, the cure is right there.
We just need to be bold enough to stand up and put legislation into place. Until it’s a punishable offense, it, probably won’t stop. It is not enough for us to appeal to people’s senses because people who do these actually have no sense.
But you have to put fear in them and they have to know the repercussions. They have to weigh their options. Is it worth going to jail for? Is it worth me losing my life for because I’m angry and I want to beat someone? You’ll think twice next time.
