The son of Betty and Kalman Seinfeld, Jerry Seinfeld was born in Brooklyn, New York. His father, Kalman, was of Jewish ancestry in Hungary. When he was still a child, he and his family relocated to the Long Island suburb of Massepequa, along with his sister Carolyn. Jerry’s father was a professional sign maker and had a great sense of humour. He currently has a $920 million nett worth.
Jerry originally enrolled at Queens College in New York City after transferring from Oswego College in rural New York. After minor appearances in productions while he was a college student, Jerry discovered a personal interest in stand-up comedy. He immediately went to an amateur night try-out in New York after finishing college.
Jerry kept performing in Catskill Mountain resorts and neighbourhood bars up until 1976, when Rodney Dangerfield’s appearance on an HBO special helped him advance his career. His career took off after his first lucrative appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in 1962. His other performances on various shows came after that. He had four appearances on the sitcom Frankie on Benson (1979), but the show quickly fired him. In 1989, he was given the chance when he was asked to develop a sitcom for NBC. He joined forces with former stand-up buddy Larry David.
