Michael Gerard “Mike” Tyson, a retired American boxer, is thought to be worth $1 million. As the youngest boxer to hold the WBC, WBA, and IBF heavyweight titles, Tyson holds the record as the former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. He did it at the age of 20 years, 4 months, and 22 days.
Due to his behaviour both inside and outside of the ring, Mike Tyson is one of the most infamous boxers in the annals of prizefighting. In 1986, he became the youngest heavyweight champion in history after winning the World Boxing Council title thanks to his speed, strength, and enraged anger. The next year, “Iron Mike” became the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world after winning the World Boxing Association championship. In one of his most well-known fights, Tyson defeated Michael Spinks in 91 seconds in 1988, earning $20 million. He appeared unbeatable for a moment before being defeated by the underrated James “Buster” Douglas in 1990.
Then Tyson started garnering attention for other reasons, including his brief marriage to actress Robin Givens, which was followed by a contentious divorce, his 1992 conviction for rape and subsequent three-year prison sentence, the 1997 incident in which he bit off a piece of Evander Holyfield’s ear during a match, his 1999 arrest for assault, and the 2002 incident in which he attacked opponent Lennox Lewis and bit off a portion of his leg at a press conference to announce a fight. In any case, on June 8, 2002, the fight took place, and Lennox submitted Tyson in the eighth round.
Fans of Tyson saw him as a disturbed young man who overcame significant obstacles to become one of the sport’s most illustrious figures; opponents claimed that his actions damaged the reputation of boxing. After his time in prison, Tyson’s fighting career never truly recovered, and after losing to veteran heavyweight Kevin McBride in a technical knockout on June 11, 2005, he declared that he “most likely” wouldn’t fight again.
Tyson, 44, confessed without any remorse that he is “totally destitute” in an appearance with Barbara Walters and the women of “The View.” Mike Tyson’s response when asked how he got to such a bad place was, “I had a lot of fun. It simply took place.
The retiring champion acknowledged that his extravagant and wasteful spending was to blame for the destruction of his bank account. He claims that his lack of money has not destroyed his life, though, after experiencing a mental change. “I lead a fantastic life, and I am devoted to an amazing wife…I’m extremely grateful despite the fact that I don’t deserve to have the wife and children I do.
Despite earning more than $30 million for a number of his fights and $300 million over the course of his career, Tyson filed bankruptcy in 2003.Rapper 50 Cent paid $4.1 million to purchase Mike Tyson’s Farmington, Connecticut, mansion.
On Ring Magazine’s list of the top 100 punchers in history, he comes in at number 16.
