The South African Navy is one of the most capable naval forces in the African region, with advanced operating units of battleships, submarines, patrol craft, and auxiliary vessels, as well as a marine force of over 7000 soldiers.
The South African Navy’s primary mission is to maintain, defend, and participate in counter-piracy operations, fisheries protection, search and rescue, and maritime law enforcement for the benefit of South Africa and its international allies.
