The DA in Gauteng warned Premier David Makhura not to make any attempt to reinstate Bandile Masuku as Health MEC.
The party is of the opinion that if Masuku gets reinstated, it would undermine the fight against corruption.
Makhura relieved Masuku of his duties on Friday after SIU investigation revealed that he failed to execute his functions in compliance with the the Public Finance Management Act.
This report was prompted by the widespread allegations of wrongdoings in the PPE tender in which Masuku was implicated in.
The premier made it known that he won’t appoint anyone to replace Masuku until the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) finalises its probe.
The current acting MEC Jacob Mamabolo will continue in the position till the investigation is over.
He however indicated that he may reinstate Masuku if he’s later cleared of corruption.
The DA’s Charity Moyo said the party is against Masuku’s return to the position.
Moyo said “it seems Makhura wants to rescue a friend and political ally rather than the to enforce the high standards of accountability.”
Meanwhile, the axed MEC disclosed that he would challenge the preliminary findings against him in court.
His legal team claimed there were unjustifiable elementary errors in the report.
