Nigerian boxer, Oluwafemi Oyeleye has signed a promotional contract with Mayweather Promotions, the company has announced.
Oyeleye himself confirmed the new contract on his Facebook page with a picture of himself and millionaire American boxer, Floyd Mayweather.
Olaleye made his first popular mark on Nigeria’s boxing scene in September 2015, after winning a gold in the 69kg welterweight category of the All Africa Games that year. The six-foot-tall boxer who also loves music was introduced to the sport by his father, Coach Ojo Abayomi Oyeleye who is also a boxing coach.
“It was just like yesterday when he started boxing in Maiduguri, he actually started when he was in primary school. This first national competition he participated was the National Sports Festival ‘KADA Games 2009’ in Kaduna where he won silver medal,” Oyeleye said about his son.
“Ever since then he has not looked back. Nobody choose boxing for him, he chose it by himself because he saw me actively involved in it as he was growing. My sincere prayer for him is to go beyond this level, and win more gold for Nigeria in Olympics and other major tournaments in future.”
Mayweather Promotions outfit which Oyeleye just signed to is a boxing promotional firm founded by five-division world and eleven-time world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2007.
Oyeleye will make his debut in the ring for The Money Team, on 2nd December at Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall in Las Vegas, Nevada.
