The main ramp of Marina da Gloria, the sailing venue of the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, has collapsed on Sunday. No one was injured. The incident happened just eight days before the Olympic Games Rio 2016 officially kick off, raising further questions about the quality of construction in the Olympic host city.
High tides and the strong wind were the factors that attributed to the collapsed, according to Philip Wilkinson, a spokesman for the Rio 2016 organizing committee.
Wilkinson said the construction company responsible for the project has been contacted and was expected to make the repairs within four days. Sailing competitions begin on 8 August.
